Originally a native of Fayetteville, North
Carolina, Mike Little comes from simple
beginnings, strong family ties, big dreams and
the drive to make them a reality. Now if you ask
Mike, he’ll tell it like this, “I was born naked
on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere North
Carolina, now known as Fayetteville. The path I
have followed is based on the values that have
endured all time and trial…faith in God, love of
family and country, and the golden rule.”
This is Mike’s Story
By the age of five Mike had discovered a love
for music in the choir at church. During that
year, he started to carry around a guitar for
which he displayed a natural talent. When the
Beatles came to the US, he was determined to
have a musical career and become a Beatle
himself.
Through the 1970’s and into the 80’s Mike
performed all over the country. He worked for
notables such as BJ Thomas as lead guitarist and
toured extensively with the band. Remember Rain
Drops Keep Falling on My Head and Another Done
Somebody Wrong Song? Mike also worked with
Freddie Fender and was billed with many
recognizable artists of the day from Johnny Cash
to Neil Sedaka. The experience was his boyhood
dream; to tour with a gold record, which some of
the artists he shared the stage with had several
of, but nothing lasts forever in the pop music
world.
After coming off tour, Mike chose to attend the
North Carolina School of the Arts to pursue
classical music. He later went on to Florida
State and Brevard Music Center for Repertoire
Study. After finishing school Mike performed in
regional theaters doing musical comedy, drama,
and concerts. He retired from performing in the
early 80’s in favor of raising a family and
settling down, so he turned to the one thing
that he had been exposed to other than music…
real estate.
When people ask him how he got into real estate,
his response is always the same: We were farmers
until they built that boulevard through the
middle of our farm so we became developers.
He began his real estate career as the special
projects director for Waterville valley, home of
the women’s Olympic ski team. Later he began to
do the offsite marketing for the project from
the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the grand
strand of Myrtle Beach. During that period I was
offered an opportunity to create a marketing and
sales program for Woodlake Country Club in the
Pinehurst area of NC. I was responsible for the
institution and creation of all offsite public
relations and onsite sales for the 2,508 acre
golf community featuring the world famous
architects Ellis Maples and Arnold Palmer.
In pursuit of his own dreams, he went onto the
most southwestern tip of the Outer Banks in
hopes of becoming the master of his own destiny.
He decided that the White Oak river separating
Onslow and Carteret counties held the promise
and potential that he was looking for. There he
spent almost a quarter of a century designing,
developing, and building single family
communities. The term for what I do in the real
estate industry would be a “boutique developer”,
meaning I look for small tracts that have
special features. I can say that there are
hundreds of families that appreciate my need to
travel the path less chosen. Seven hurricanes
later I said goodbye to the coastal life and
relocated to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North
Carolina where I continue to practice my craft.
I chose the south fork of the New River to begin
my mountain career. It is the best decision I
have made in almost 25 years, and I invite you
to take some time for yourselves to find out
why.
A much needed vacation led Mike just a few hours
west to the mountains for a peaceful vacation with
the family. It was on that family trip in the
mid 90’s that sparked Mike’s love and
fascination for these beautiful mountains and
the
New River. During that visit, the family
took a drive to Ashe County to see the Frescos
and discovered the South Fork of the New River.
This was the beginning of Mike’s mountain journey.
Just a couple of years after that visit, Mike
acquired property on the South Fork of the New
River in what he considered to be one of the
most beautiful places on earth and began
construction of his personal mountain retreat as
well as developing what is now known as
Crystal
Ridge. Crystal Ridge was so named because of all
of the quartz formations Mike discovered on the
property. Crystal Ridge spans approximately 1
mile of river front property making one of the
largest contiguous pieces of land on the New
River.
Mike is now a permanent resident of
West
Jefferson in Ashe County and his penchant for
unique real estate that caters to lifestyle
living continues! |
